Carson - Halloween.  Among its great distinctions, Carson is known for car dealers.  Situated along the 405 Freeway in Los Angeles County, the displays, often set to the backdrop of the Carson oil refineries, are sometimes quirky, and often eye-grabbers.

During Halloween season, I drove by this display shown above. Four full size standing mummies are chained to a new car, while skeletons straddle the hood of another car suspended from the air by a crane.

You almost don't absorb it all when moving a brisk 65 mph, though during rush hour (named for going slow), you can move at 10 mph and take it all in, minute by minute as your very own car inches forward, making you feel like the living dead.

While most the freeway billboards and signs in L.A. announce Halloween with big pumpkins, this Carson exhibit is one of the best for getting in the spirit.  When you start seeing the smoke spew into the sky from the refineries, you're in the vicinity of this dazzling Halloween decor.  It's just one more bizarre reason we love L.A.
