California Christmas Tree
Ceremonies & Displays
California loves its traditions, many that date back to the 1700's when a chain of 21 missions were established under Spaniards. Introducing holidays such as Christmas to California, the missions today continue a long tradition of celebrating Christmas with special ceremonies, tree lightings, and lighting of candles. But the missions are merely the beginning of holiday festivities that span the state from the Capitol Tree Lighting in Sacramento, to malls, shopping centers and districts, to city centers where people gather.
Tree Lighting Ceremonies and California Holiday Tree Displays are held in nearly every city and town in California. Many include parades and special photo opportunities with Santa Claus, some feature concerts with holiday singers, and others are simple events such as the flick of a switch.
